Constant State of Awareness

Daily life flashes away so quickly like old commercials. But there are some moments that you want to remember, or simply want the day to be more memorable so that it doesn’t seem like a blur, and meaningless. Now, with your cell phone, life can be continuous moments of stopping to smell the roses. You see something different, you zoom in, you look up, or you see something funny. You see something emotional, you see a reflection, or have a minute in your busy day to capture a moment on your phone. Then you forget about it for a while. One day you stumble on it, remember it and soak in the vision of it. The act of taking a picture or quick video each and every day gives you a moment to be playful, enjoyed, savored, grounded, creative, smile, feel and all those things that make life worth living.

Emotional Burst

Being too emotional is like being in a hurricane. It can cause devastation and hurt innocent bystanders. However, if you can find ways to break it up into smaller rain storms, the rain can water the fields, wash away the dirt, provide drinking water and cool a hot, brutal day. Your emotions are endless burst that can power you forward, give you super strength, realize your dreams and help you change the world.

Emotional Burst

Braces Hurt a Little

Most kids need braces. There are some who don’t, they’re blessed and you just watch them with joy and appreciation. For the rest of us, we need braces. It provides us with a strong support that keeps us secure, grounds us, guides us as we grow stronger and upright. Some times it does hurt a little, but eventually the braces will come off. And we will be better prepared to face the world with our smiles, abilities and the future.

In Black and White

Winter turns trees white and in the shadows they seem black. But look carefully and you will see many hues of grays. Within the grays are variations of the same view, different, but still the same. Wrinkles imprint on the bark with the passage of time, seasons heal wounds, and the wind twirls the seeds high into the snowy sky. In life, black and white are usually more grays, and most things that seem to stay the same change with the seasons. And one’s wisdom becomes more compassionate and thoughtful.

Super Strength

When my son was born, he had many medical issues, and spent months in the hospital at a time. I thought that he was weak, and he was. Once he started walking and then running he would fall and hurt himself all the time. I was always telling him to be careful and that he needed to think before he acted. Now that he’s in school, I’ve noticed that he’s a quick learner, very empathetic to others and kind. I think all the falls, hurts and pains have instilled in him an unusual ability to not be afraid of hardships, giving him the talent to learn more quickly. His pains have taught him to be more compassionate. His super strength comes from his weakness.

Swallowed & Liberated

On this beautiful autumn day, lying on a blanket of tickly grass and covered with a gentle swaying wind, I look up into the sky and am swallowed by an endless blue-ish hue with streaks of white laced in it. Realizing how small I am, a speck, a dust in this enormously infinite heaven above me. And for the first time my thoughts, my fears, my troubles and even my dreams are seemly distant whispers I can barely hear.

Your Echo

It feels like gym class all over again. At least in gym class the teacher always tried to balance the groups. These days, people are broken down into similarities, levels, cliques, tribes and into reds or blues. To accomplish something we’re told that we have to be of one mind and focus. When I was growing up we called those people YES men. Think about it, do you really want to be surrounded by people who echo your every thought, do or want the same things? Where would you ever find new ideas, better solutions? How can you learn and evolve? When you look into the mirror, do you want a world of your own reflection?

Giving Life

I used to take the subways to work in New York City. With music between my ears, I could only see faces, rows and rows of faces and most of them looked like they were daydreaming about being somewhere else. Over time, I would see the same people, wearing the same clothes, doing the same things. But one day, this one person looked different. She dressed differently, she stood instead of sitting and she was focused on the present. The next day she made eye contact and stood right beside me. And that’s when I saw a slip of a hand written note with the beginning of a poem. To do something that frees your imagination, that taps your inner resources, and to think beyond the norm is to give yourself life.

Belief in Motion

When you invest your blood, sweat, guts and soul into something, pain doesn’t matter and sleep is unnecessary. It’s all-consuming, all-doing and getting it done. It’s your passion until someone joins you and then it becomes a cause. When you need to organize, it becomes a movement, and when change happens your belief becomes a legacy. Belief in motion is group effort that makes history.

Finding Friendship

A white puff of smoke bellows in the air. A strobe flashes of heat and fire in the distance. The mouthwatering aroma chimes, and instantly you are captivated. It’s the blossoming of a great new friendship, like hunger peaked for a feast. It’s exciting when you find someone new and all you want is to consume every moment with this person forever. Friendship is innocent and overwhelming, especially when experienced young. In time you want to make sure it helps you grow and loves you back.
